The Nigerian Journal of Health and Biomedical Sciences publishes original research articles, case report, review articles and short communications of outstanding research findings.

Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts (3 copies) should be typewritten on A4 paper (210 x 297 mm) with double line spacing and 4cm margins. Each of the following sections should begin on a new page: title page, summary, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, acknowledgement(s), references, tables, legend to figures and illustrations.

Title Page

The title page should give the following information: (1) title of the article; (2) names and initials of each author; (3) the department and institution where the work was done; (4) name and address of author to whom correspondence should be addressed; (5) present addresses of authors if different from that at which the work was done; (6) key words (not more than 7 words) and (7) running title.

Summary

The second page of the manuscript should carry a summary of not more than 200 words. It should state the objectives, methods, main results and the principal conclusions.

All illustrations are to be considered as figures. Figures should be submitted in triplicate and numbered consecutively with Arabic numbers. Letters, numbers and symbols must be clear, in proportion to each other and large enough to be legible when reduced for publication. Three copies of figures preferably drawn and photographed, black and white glossy and unmounted photographs are welcome. Figures should be numbered lightly on the back and the top indicated name(s) of author(s) written. Legend to each figure should be typed on a separate sheet of paper.

Tables should be typed double-spaced on separate sheet and submitted in triplicate and Roman numerals (e.g. I, II, III…. etc).

Only references cited in the text and only those accepted for publication in a named journal should be included in the list at the end of the paper. Arrangement of the References is based on the Vancouver Style. References must therefore be in numerical order consecutively as first cited in the text and should include name(s) of author(s), title of paper, title of journal, date, volume, number and page numbers e.g. Elebute EA. References quoted in the text must be indicated by numbers in parentheses and not in superscript.

All measurements should be expressed in SI (Systeme International) Units.

This should not exceed 1,500 words and should convey only the salient features of the case, keeping discussions, references and illustrations to a minimum.

For word processing, use WordPerfect or MS Word. An electronic copy of the manuscript must be submitted along with the 3 paper copies. This can either be on diskette or by e-mail.

Include a cover letter verifying that the final manuscript has been seen and approved by all authors. Submit 3 copies of the original manuscript with three sets of original figures and an electronic copy to:

One set of proofs will be sent to the authors concerned. It should be returned duly corrected with the least possible delay within 10 days. Printer’s error should be marked in red and other alterations in blue. Authors will be liable to pay for any alterations not due to printer’s errors, which they make.

Off-prints should be ordered when corrected proofs are returned. Details of charges for off-prints and an order form will be sent with the proofs.

Only articles that have been accepted for publication will draw fees. The charges per article is three thousand naira (N3,000), this would include the processing fees and page charges. Bank drafts or cheques in this amount should be made payable to the ‘Nigerian Journal of Health and Biomedical Sciences’.

All authors listed on the original manuscript are jointly held responsible for the entire article. It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to ensure agreement to publication of the articles by all authors of the article.

The Nigerian Journal of Health and Biomedical Sciences expects a high standard of ethical practice from each author. Studies on human subjects must have been cleared with Ethics committee or its equivalent in the Institution where the research was carried out. Informed Consent of human subjects must be clearly stated in the submitted manuscript. Similarly, experiments involving animals must follow acceptable international standard.
