This search engine uses Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) to locate resources on the Internet and provides brief descriptions for each link. Google Scholar enables users to search specifically for scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from all areas of research. The site includes an About page that contains ‘frequently asked questions’ for searching, indexing, accessing and citing articles. http://scholar.google.com/


HONcode Toolbar
The site links to the downloadable version of the HONcode Toolbar. This is a search engine limited to the sites that subscribe to the Health on the Net Foundation Code of Conduct. MedBioWorld: Search Engine and Medical Link Directories

MedHunt: Health on the Net
Medhunt provides a search engine, a subject-based gateway, journal articles and news. There is also a 2000+ multimedia gallery and a ‘conferences and events’ page. http://www.hon.ch/


Medical World Search
This sophisticated search engine retrieves synonyms for keyword search terms. It is based on the National Library of Medicine (U.S.) medical thesaurus. http://www.mwsearch.com/


SCIRUS: For Scientific Information Only
SCIRUS is a keyword search engine but it concentrates only on web sites that contain scientific content, eg university web sites and author homepages. Users can limit their search to one or more of the following subject areas: biological sciences, biosciences, life sciences, medicine, neuroscience and pharmacology. http://scirus.com/


TRIP Database Focus on DCs
Initiated in 1997, the database is a search engine with a focus on evidence based medical articles. The contents now include the following categories: evidence-based guidelines, query-answering, medical images, ebooks, patient information leaflets and pee-reviewed journals.
