The ARC is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded to produce books, teaching aids and other resources in Arabic. Association for Health Information and Libraries in Africa (AHILA) Focus on DCs
AHILA is a professional association with 46 country members and many partners and collaborators worldwide. The AHILA web site includes news and reports relevant to health information in Africa, and the opportunity to join the AHILA email discussion list, AHILA-net. http://www.ahila.org/


Basic Medical Library Management
The site is geared toward non-professionals and professionals in health and hospital libraries within the United States. Topics discussed include administration, sources of information, medical databases, collection development and links to additional resources. Brandon/Hill selected list of print books and journals for the small medical library
This ‘core collection’ for small medical libraries includes 630 books and 143 journals and is organized into 59 book and 46 journal subject headings. A classic in the U.S. medical library world, the list includes numerous books and journals that would be useful in building a print collection for a developing country library. Child-to-Child Trust Focus on DCs
The Trust acts as a central core for health and education workers and programmes that encourage children and adolescents to take an active role in their health and development. The site contains information about the organization and participating groups, and its projects and training programs. The Communication Initiative Spanish Focus on DCs
The Communication Initiative is a partnership of development organisations seeking to support advances in the effectiveness and scale of communication interventions for positive international development. The site provides summaries of health related communication projects and studies. The material ranges from academic studies to grass roots projects. It is available in English and Spanish and includes a search engine. This is a USAID funded and maintained project. http://www.comminit.com/


Development Gateway French Spanish Focus on DCs
This is the website of the Development Gateway, an organization that helps communities, organizations, and individuals build partnerships to reduce poverty. It contains subject-based and keyword indices. For each topic, the sub-page contains a discussion of the key issues, current news and projects. Many of the subjects are health related including HIV/AIDS, population and reproductive health, gender issues and ICT for health care. http://www.developmentgateway.org/


Digital Dividend Project Clearinghouse Focus on DCs
This is a database of several hundred activities, ideas and shared experiences on digitally-enhanced projects providing services to underserved populations in developing countries. Directory of Medical Libraries in Africa Focus on DCs
This site is an alphabetical country listing of medical libraries in Africa. For each institution, the site has name, contact, street and email addresses, telephone and url address if available. The Dreyfus Health Foundation is a US non-profit organisation that aims to serve as a catalyst for better health world-wide through communication and collaboration. Its two main programmes are ‘Problem Solving for Better Health’ and ‘Communication for Better Health’ http://www.dhfglobal.org/


Electronic Publishing Trust for Development (EPT) Focus on DCs

Exchange: a Networking and Learning Programme on Health Communications for Development Focus on DCs
Exchange promotes learning and encourages sharing of information about effective health communication, undertakes advocacy to engender a more favourable climate in which health communication activities can flourish, and maintains a brokerage role to help match health communication needs to available resources. Exchange's underlying principle is that it strengthens and links existing initiatives and networks. Handbook for Telecenter Staffs Focus on DCs
The Handbook provides an overview of the numerous aspects that are involved in the planning and daily functioning of a telecentre for community development. It is a self-learning tool and management guide and also serves as a reference resource for additional educational materials. The site is organized into ten pdf file modules. Although not specifically geared toward telehealth sites, the handbook contains considerable useful information. Health Communication Materials Network (HCMN) Focus on DCs
HCMN is an international network of professionals specializing in the development of health communication materials - pamphlets, posters, video, radios, training materials, electronic media, etc. The site includes a visual database of health communication materials. It is maintained by the Media Materials Clearinghouse of the Center for Communication Programs, Johns Hopkins University , U.S. http://www.hcmn.org/


Health Information and Health Organizations in Africa Focus on DCs
This site is a gateway to African-related sites on travel health, health news, health research, UN agencies and WHO, conferences, bibliographies and indexes. Health InterNetwork Focus on DCs
The Health InterNetwork project aims to bridge the "digital divide" in health information. Led by the World Health Organization, the project brings together public and private partners to ensuring equitable access to health information. The core elements of the project are content, Internet connectivity and capacity building. The Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative is the initial project and provides access to 1500 ejournals. http://www.healthinternetwork.org/


Health on the Net Foundation (HON)
Created in 1995, HON is a not-for-profit international organization whose mission is to guide lay persons and medical practitioners to useful and reliable online medical and health information. The site describes the organization and its projects and contains numerous e-health surveys and reports. The organization has developed the HON code of conduct, a set of eight principles for health sites’ reliability and credibility. http://www.hon.ch/

Hesperian Foundation Focus on DCs
The Hesperian Foundation is a non-profit publisher committed to the promotion of the health of poor people around the world. It publishes books and other educational resources for community-based health care. The organization provides 1000 free copies per year of its titles to health workers from developing countries on demand. INASP-Health Directory: 2003/2004 Focus on DCs
The INASP-Health Directory describes the range of international programmes working to improve access to reliable information for healthcare workers in developing and transitional countries. Intended for use as a reference and networking tool for all those with an interest in health information access, the Directory includes sections on Organizations that support book and library development; Providers of free or low-priced information; Professional associations and institutions; Distribution programmes; and Funding agencies. International Health CD-ROM Exhibition Focus on DCs
This site is a list of health related CD-ROMs for developing countries. Many of the CD-ROMS are available free of charge to users in these countries. They are organized by medical subject, except for CD-ROMs produced by TDR, Wellcome Trust and Update Software, which produce CD-ROMs on several subjects and are listed separately. The site contains a manual with practical, step-by-step instructions for creating and managing a successful library. It was reviewed and field tested by a panel of international librarians and development workers. Licensing Digital Information: Developing Nations Initiatives Focus on DCs
The site identifies programmes that bring high quality, peer-reviewed sciences journals to developing and transitional countries for free or minimal cost. It is organized alphabetically by publisher/organization with links to information on access procedures. Media Materials Clearinghouse (MMC) Focus on DCs
MMC is an international resource for samples of pamphlets, posters, and videos designed to promote public health. Most of the information is free and some can be obtained online. The site includes NETLINKS, a database of organisations related to health, population, and international development. NGO Networks for Health Focus on DCs
The organization is a five-year global health project created in 1998 to meet the need for family planning, reproductive health, child survival, and HIV/AIDs information and services in developing countries. The site describes the organization's membership and projects. It contains full text pdf files of projects and strategies that can be adapted. Partnerships In Health Information (Phi) Focus on DCs
This website describes the organization and activities of Phi. The organisation creates partnerships and twinning between health science information services in the ‘North’ and developing countries. pm2mail Focus on DCs
pm2mail (PUBMED-TO-EMAIL) is a free software that allows email access to PUBMED and to full-text articles of scientific and medical journals indexed by Medline. This is a useful tool for all professionals with slow access to the Internet. It can also be used to access articles via HINARI. portable Knowledge Assessment Development System (pKADS)
This site is a link to an open source, portable version of the Knowledge Asset Development system (pKADS) developed by the United Nations Population Fund. This tool is used to capture and share knowledge within an organization, by creating and editing knowledge asset details (categories, questions and answers, objectives, resources, network members, etc.) on a computer. Resource Centre Manual, 2nd edition Focus on DCs
This new edition was launched in October 2003. It contains detailed information on how to set up and manage a health ‘resource centre.’ Topics covered include: planning, management and finance, space and furniture, collection development, organizing information and computer/database usage. SatelLife is an international, not-for-profit organization that provides connectivity and health information for health professionals in the developing world. Teaching-aids at Low Cost (TALC) Focus on DCs
TALC is a non-profit organization based in the UK. It is a major distributor of low-price health books, slides and teaching equipment to developing countries. A new programme, e-TALC, aims to provide selected resources on CD-ROM. The TALC website includes an outline of its programmes and catalogues of available resources. http://www.talcuk.org/


World Health Report 2003 Spanish French Focus on DCs
This year's report, shaping the future, emphasizes international action to tackle HIV/AIDS, polio, SARS and noncommunicable diseases can help strengthen health systems and meet other major public health challenges.
