International Council of Nurses
The International Council of Nurses is a federation of national nurses’ associations, representing nurses in 118 countries. ICN serves as a hub for the international exchange of ideas, experience and expertise for the nursing profession, working to ensure quality nursing care for all. The site includes careers support, information on international meetings, and fact sheets on international nursing issues. http://www.icn.ch


International Health ExchangeFocus on DCs
IHE is a UK-based charity that recruits experienced health workers for developing countries. It provides training, information and advice to health workers in emergency aid and development situations. The IHE web site provides information about jobs and health development issues, and recommends organizations, publications, and other useful resources for health professionals working in developing countries. http://www.ihe.org.uk


Medical Research Council of South AfricaFocus on DCs
MRC aims to improve health in South Africa through relevant health research for equity and development. The website describes the organization’s mission, structure and research programmes and contains a database of the organization’s policy briefs, press releases and reports. http://www.mrc.ac.za/home.html


National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine, U.S. (NCCAM)
The site summarizes health information, research, training, clinical trials and news about complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). NCCAM is a U.S. governmental agency that studies these practices in the context of rigorous science. The site is targeted especially to US practitioners and consumers. However, NCCAM promotes international research collaboration and has an interest in CAM in developing countries. http://www.nccam.nih.gov/


National Institutes of Health, U.S.
The NIH site includes press releases, reports, scientific resources and links to individual organizations within the NIH. http://www.nih.gov/


National Library of Medicine, U.S.
The National Library of Medicine is the world's largest biomedical library. The goal of the Web site is to ensure maximum access to these resources within the U.S. and worldwide. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/


Network for Equality in Health for Southern Africa (EQUINET)Focus on DCs
EQUINET is a network of research, civil society and health sector organizations working towards and influencing equity in health in Southern Africa. http://www.equinetafrica.org/


Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Spanish Focus on DCs
The site contains information about the programs of PAHO, the 45 member WHO regional organization for the Americas. It includes policy statements, technical reports, country health profiles, publications and contains numerous full-text documents. The site is available in English and Spanish. http://www.paho.org/


PHRplus Focus on DCs
Partners for Health Reformplus (PHRplus ) is a USAID project that provides technical assistance in health care reform, health policy, management, health financing, and systems strengthening. It works closely with NGOs, USAID cooperating agencies and international and developing country partner organizations. Quality Assurance (QA) ProjectFocus on DCs
The project is dedicated to improving the quality of health, population, and nutrition services through technical support to service delivery institutions, Ministries of Health, USAID missions, and cooperating agencies. The site summarizes the mission, projects and publications of the project. It is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). http://www.qaproject.org/


Support for Analysis and Research in Africa (SARA)Focus on DCs
SARA focuses on building capacity in African health-related institutions to strengthen research and analysis skills, and develop dissemination and advocacy strategies. It collaborates with over 20 African organizations. The site includes full-text reports on the projects. http://sara.aed.org/


UK Partnership For Global Health Focus on DCs
Established in April 2000, this organization is a forum for people concerned about the impact of globalization on health issues. The site contains subject based, fulltext documents on numerous policy topics. The participants are from various national and international constituencies and UK governmental departments. http://www.ukglobalhealth.org/


West African Doctors Network (WADN) French Focus on DCs
The organization’s goal is to use knowledge as the key to raising living standards and developing the African continent. The site summarizes WADN’s projects and services that focus on telemedicine, professional education and consumer health. It contains a health professionals’ Intranet – registration is required but is free. http://www.wadn.org/

The WHO site provides information about all WHO programmes including coordinaton of international health work, technical assistance and aid, prevention and control of epidemics, and improvement of health care. The site contains links to numerous useful full-text documents. http://www.who.int/

World Medical Association French Spanish
WMA is the only organization representing physicians from all medical disciplines and sectors, and all regions of the world. The WMA publishes the World Medical Journal every 2 months. The journal will soon be available on the WMA website. It is available in English, French and Spanish. http://www.wma.net/


World Organization of Family Doctors
The website includes the WONCA Newsletter; Global Family Doctor News; and online educational resources in dermatology, asthma, diabetes, and other subjects. Most of the content appears to be targeted primarily to family doctors in developed countries. However, the WONCA email discussion group, “gp-wonca” has substantial representation from developing countries. http://www.globalfamilydoctor.com/
