African Studies Association (US)
Non-profit organization which serves the Africanist community through an annual national convention of African studies and publication and distribution of scholarly Africanist materials. http://www.africanstudies.org


American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
Dedicated to the advancement of scientific and technological excellence across all disciplines, and to the public's understanding of science and technology. With links to AAAS International programs. http://www.aaas.org/


American Library Association (ALA)
The site of the American Library Association offers many items and links of interest to the library and information science community. http://www.ala.org/


Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP)
Encourages communication and co-operation between learned and professional societies and institutions of all sizes in matters concerning publishing. Publishes the journal Learned Publishing. This site includes a good 'Resources' links section. http://www.alpsp.org.uk/


BISO News
BISO News in the online newsletter of the Board on International Scientific Organizations, the board within the (US) National Academies that manages US membership in the International Council of Science/ICSU. Each issue (first issue published September 2001) contains news from ICSU, Scientific Unions, and other ICSU bodies, together with news and reports about other activities, and a calendar of events.

Council of Editors of Learned Journals (CELJ)
An organization of editors of learned journals discussing common editorial concerns, sharing editorial expertise, and providing guidelines for editorial procedures. With on-line access to the CELJ Newsletter. http://www.celj.org/ 


The Council of Science Editors (CSE)
The US-based Council of Science Editors (formerly the Council of Biology Editors) aims to improve communication in the sciences by educating authors, editors, and publishers; by providing means of cooperation among persons interested in publishing in the sciences; and by promoting effective communication practices in primary and secondary publishing in any form. The Web site provides information about the CSE's activities, services, events, job vacancies, and the Council also offers a number of very useful publications for those involved in the processes of editing, peer-reviewing, illustrating, and managing scientific books and journals.

European Association of Science Editors (EASE)

International African Institute

International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers (STM)
Supports STM publishers, assists fellow professionals and their authors in the dissemination of scientific knowledge and information, and aims to improve the overall quality of international STM publishing. International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP)

International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organizations (IFRRO)

International Publishers Association (IPA)
Established in 1896 the IPA is the professional organization of national publishers associations. The site includes the complete IPA member directory, listings of events/book fairs, publishing statistics, training programmes, reviews of professional books, as well as a section on ‘Enabling Technologies’. http://www.ipa-uie.org


Library & Information Association of South Africa (LIASA)

The National Academies
The Web site bringing together reports about current projects, publications (more than 1,800 books on line), and directories of the [US] National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council.
