African Conservation Tillage Network (ACT)
The ACT's main aim is to identify, develop, disseminate and promote sustainable land use and rural livelihoods through the adaptation and adoption of natural (such as soil and water) and other (such as fuel, energy, time and capital) conserving tillage practices in Africa. Act Now!  its electronic newsletter provides a regular update on events and findings which may assist or accelerate the adoption of conservation tillage practices in Africa.  http://ies.uz.ac.zw/act-network/index.html 


African Energy Policy Research Network (AFREPREN)
A programme on Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development, and a collective regional response to the widespread concern over the weak link between energy research and the formulation and implementation of energy policy in Africa. The AFREPREN web site provides introductory and background information on the activities of the Network and AFREPREN Update, published every two months serves to inform individuals on the activities that have, and will be undertaken by AFREPREN. http://www.afrepren.org/  


AFRILINE eBulletin 
A twice monthly e-mail newsletter with news and information promoting African civil society organizations and networks and
disseminating information of use to African organizations. Issues focus on those highlighted on AFRILINE.net (currently HIV/AIDS, Poverty Reduction Strategies, Capacity Building, NGOs and the World Bank and issues of networking activities and ICT and development in Africa). http://www.afriline.net/ebullet.html  


Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR)
An association of 57 public and private sector members that supports a network of 16 international research centres promoting - through research - sustainable agriculture for food security in developing counties. http://www.cgiar.org/


Developing Countries Farm Radio Network (DCFRN)
Enables and assists farmers and their communities to achieve self-empowerment by providing an international information exchange, primarily using radio, of practical, sustainable agriculture and health information. http://www.farmradio.org


FARM-Africa (Food and Agricultural Research Management)
FARM-Africa is committed to helping small-holder farmers and pastoralists in Africa to improve their level of agricultural productivity and income in an environmentally sustainable way. http://www.farmafrica.org.uk/


Forest, Trees and People Programme (FTPP)
Aims to develop methods and approaches to support local people's own initiatives to improve the management of natural resources, especially trees and forests, for their own benefit. http://www-trees.slu.se


INADES-Formation (African Institute for Economic and Social Development—African Training Centre)
Works for self-advancement of rural populations through training action and programmes, offering information, publications, techniques and methods. INADES has national offices in 10 African countries. http://www.sdnp.undp.org/sdncmr/subweb/cminade2.htm


International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF)
Aims to improve social conditions by alleviating poverty, increasing cash income especially among women, and improve food and nutritional security. Maintains various databases on agroforestry. http://www.worldagroforestrycentre.org/level1a.htm 


International Network on Ethnoforestry (INEF)
INEF aims to document and disseminate indigenous knowledge on forest management and to support its integration with formal forestry science.  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/inef/  


International Network of Forests and Communities (INFC)
An international network supporting ecologically sustainable community forestry, through information sharing, research and advocacy. It works at the local, regional and global level to raise awareness of the interdependence of forests and forest-dependent communities. It has set up a `Forest-Community' email discussion group, the purpose of which is to enable members from around the world to get in touch with each other directly to discuss, give updates, and share information. http://www.forestsandcommunities.org/main.html


Network for Environment and Sustainable Development in Africa (NESDA)

The People and Plants Initiative Carries out applied research projects, community workshops, and organizes exchanges and training courses with young ethno-botanists from developing countries who are interested in conservation and community development. http://www.rbgkew.org.uk/peopleplants/


Producing Information Materials Through Participatory Workshops
Pioneered and developed at the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction in the Phillippines, this is an initiative designed to produce a variety of information materials - on various topics relating to agriculture, the environment and health -through participatory workshops. Programme for Agricultural Information Services (PRAIS)

Southern Africa Environment Project
