HOW TO SUBSCRIBE
The procedure for joining the list is as follows:

1. Send an email message directly to the list moderator, Neil
Pakenham-Walsh, at <[email protected]>.  This will be received manually, so
it doesn't matter what you put in the subject line.

In the body of the message, say you would like to join hif-net and add a few
lines about your professional interest in health information. This is your
HIF-net at WHO PROFILE. This profile will be added by the moderator to the
end of any messages that you may send, unless you request otherwise. It is
hoped this will facilitate communication among all HIF-net participants.

For example, the HIF-net at WHO profile of the HIF-net at WHO moderator is
as follows:

Neil Pakenham-Walsh has a background in medicine and medical publishing,
including work with the World Health Organization, the journal Medicine
Digest, and the CD-ROM series Topics in International Health (Tropical
Medicine Resource, Wellcome Trust). He has worked as a medical officer in
rural Ecuador and Peru. He currently runs the INASP-Health programme
(International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications),
which aims to support cooperation, analysis, and advocacy among those
working to improve access to reliable information for healthcare workers in
developing and transitional countries.

2. The list moderator will then add your name to the list.

3. The list will automatically send you a welcome message.

HOW TO UNSUBSCRIBE
To unsubscribe. Send an email to [email protected]. Leave the body of the message blank.

HOW TO SEND MESSAGES

WHAT TO SEND
We welcome all postings that are relevant to the list's purpose of IMPROVING
ACCESS TO RELIABLE INFORMATION FOR HEALTHCARE WORKERS IN DEVELOPING AND TRANSITIONAL COUNTRIES.

The moderator will not reject postings because they are controversial or
because he disagrees with the point of view expressed. Progress without
controversy would be hard to imagine!

The main working language of HIF-net at WHO is English, but messages in
French, Spanish or Portuguese are welcome and we shall provide an English translation on
your behalf. We shall try our best to accommodate other languages, too.

WHAT NOT TO SEND
The following types of message should generally NOT be posted:

  • messages that do not address the purpose of the list or that are better
served by inclusion on another mailing list
  • private messages to other subscribers
  • ad hominem attacks (flames) or messages likely to cause unnecessary
    offence
  • postings that are clearly of a commercial nature, advertising goods and
    services for profit
  • messages that request financial assistance
  • file attachments (eg Word documents etc) should NOT be sent to the list.

Please DO send replies to questions and comments to the whole list IF the
reply is likely to be of interest to other subscribers. Other replies should
